Bruner- Chapter 1 RR Not late :)
Throughout chapter 1 it discussed the positive aspects of Project-based learning (PBL) and the setbacks that we, as teachers, might have because we are learning the technologies right along with the students. Through PBL students are given the chance to learn through experiences, with other peers and experts, and through subject matter that they actually care about. One of the ideas that teachers have to embrace is the fact that we are constant learners, learning new information and ways of learning all the time. If we do not realize this, we can not only fail ourselves but our students as well. Since PBL is being proven as a good technique in schooling, we will have to grow accustomed to the different ways this can be incorporated and adopted into a learning environment. PBL allows children to work collaboratively about subjects that matter to them, making education matter to them as well. Teachers have to shift the way approach lessons and our management style. No more of the teacher in the front and no talking by the students. The teacher sets up the bases of the project and then becomes a guide in learning, making sure everyone is still on track. Through PBL students are not only working with peers in their own classroom; they are given opportunities to communicate with other students around the globe, learning about different cultures and areas. Another aspect that PBL strongly teaches students is the idea of responsibility. They are no longer only responsible for their work- if they do not do something, their whole group is effected by it. Project-based learning is the new way of education and it is better to learn it now then be behind later.

I really liked how you brought up the fact that students can communicate with students from around the globe and learn about new cultures. I know when I was a student I feel as though I did not learn very much about the world outside of the U.S. I knew very little and PBL gives students a new, fresh look on what's going on in the world. I also agree about the idea of responsibility and I believe that students should start learning at a young age how to manage their time appropriately and how to stay on task. By emerging our students within these projects we can teach them problem-solving, time management, communication skills, and teamwork skills.
